Our Story
Uthereal started with a simple question: Why does so much AI fail in the real world?
João Carvalho, a machine learning PhD from ETH Zurich, spent years researching not just how to build AI, but why it breaks—why it hallucinates, why it can't be trusted, and what it takes to make it reliable for real businesses. At the same time, Wael Abdelmalek, a former AWS architect, was helping global enterprises turn their hard-won expertise into production-ready AI. Again and again, he saw solutions fall short because they were too generic, too risky, or never truly captured what made each business unique.
They met at a hackathon in Zurich and quickly realized they were obsessed with the same problem from opposite sides. Most companies are sitting on decades of expertise, but have no way to turn it into secure, business-grade AI that actually works for them.
That moment became Uthereal—a platform built by experts, for experts. Today, Uthereal is one of Switzerland's top startups and part of the EWOR founder community. Backed by years of research, real-world enterprise experience, and a $1M Innosuisse innovation grant, the team is on a mission to help businesses automate work, protect their IP, and unlock new revenue by making their expertise work for them.
